Lady in boots – How and what to wear with boots

My  favorite time of year? When autumn hits that perfect peak of sunny skies and crisp air, leaves crunch beneath your feet, and all you need is a colorful BAJA dress ,  jackets and yes BOOTS

Tall boots are perfect for fall and winter days. They allow you to get wear out of your lighter dresses and skirts

Fitted boots – Pick a pair that’s fitted around your leg but not so tight that your skin bulges out from the top. There shouldn’t be more than a half inch of space between your leg and your boot. The boots can be pull down a little to give a scrunched up look .

Or, wear a flat style with a mini or skin tight denims . If with mini, think about wearing tights, either way: You’ll look more conservative and pulled together. A straight cut makes them easy to slip in and out of, and they’re perfect if you want to put your jeans inside. They’re a little more casual but still refined. They are not skin fit to accommodate jeans or tights .

The ankle length boots or a ‘shootie”  slip easily under jeans or dress pants and don’t feel restrictive around your legs.

Light weight elf boots pair well with frocks and dresses, giving the  outfits a down-to-earth feel.

Hiking boots generally offer the wearer more support and protection. If you have wobbly ankles, the higher profile of hiking boots supports your foot more.

Navrathri and Durga pujo inspired look !!!

Like Shiva, Maa Durga is also referred to as “Triyambake” meaning the three eyed Goddess. The left eye represents desire (the moon), the right eye represents action (the sun), and the central eye knowledge (fire).

Hence the first thing that comes  to you when you close your eyes to pray are those defined eyes and a big bindi.

Bindi has such a significance in the way we as Indian women do our shringaar . The red ‘kumkum’ between the eyebrows is said to retain energy in the human body and control the various levels of concentration. It is also the central point of the base of the creation itself — symbolizing auspiciousness and good fortune.

Today being Navami ,  going to temple i wanted those eyes to be defined and the bindi is hand drawn ( i am not a sticker fan, i use sticker bindi only if  the weather is too humid ) .

Happy navarathri and power to U …

Hairstyles to suit a round face !!!

If you have a round face, the secret to a great hairstyle is to deflect the roundness of your face. Since mine being a round face you can see my pictures in different hair length.

Round Face
Your face is as wide as it is long.  Face is widest at the cheeks.

Even though you may love the latest celebrity hair style, it might not be the right hair style for your face. The shape of your face and the proportions of your features will help tell you what hairstyle is best suited to you

hairstyle

blue long jacket - 1

  • Long hair is gorgeous on round faces because it lengthens the face. If you have a round face, your best cuts will fall a few inches below the chin and longer.
  • Ask your stylist to cut in long layers with the shortest layer hitting at your earlobe or even lower. Short layers make a hairstyle appear dated and also add body to hair, which will make a round face appear rounder. You don’t want that so cut the ends of each layer to make them all blend together .
  • Long, sideswept bangs create angles on a round face.  Go for long bangs that hit around the cheekbone. They angle down from there, which makes them fall nicely with the rest of her hair.
  • Gentle waves deflect the roundness of the face, so if you have natural wave in your hair (as most women do), allow your hair to do its natural “thing.” Scrunch hair as it dries so it retains some of its wave or help along the wave by wrapping hair around the barrel of a large curling iron .
For more on hairstyles I am here to help 🙂
  • Color – The streaks in warmer color added little texture the the hair 🙂

Creating the everyday “look”

_MG_4300_MG_4301

What i did ……

I have a combination skin, it tends to get oily around the T zone .  To prepare the skin for the makeup  i would include – Splashing  of cold water  on face and then using toner as they closes the pores  and thus reducing the oil secretion .  I have applied only a sunscreen  with UVA and UVB protection ( it has little moisturizer  ) , let the sunscreen set on the skin  before applying  foundation  ( have blended the foundation just wherever I felt I needed the coverage  and thus keeping it very light ).  have used contouring  powder  on the sides  of the nose , bronzer on the apples of  cheeks  and a little shimmer down the bridge of  nose, on  brow bone and on  chin.
For  eyebrows , I filled in with dark brown  .For shadow I covered  lid ( used very dark grey ) and brushed a shadow ( charcoal black ) on the corner of the eye as it elongates my eyes . I brightened up  my  tear line with blackest black. Finally I applied  mascara to  lashes.
For  lips I used  almost nude ( slight hint of pink/brown)   …..lip color and go for a gloss .

Indian festive wardrobe …..

FESTIVE WARDROBE –

The festive and wedding season is here and most of the time I end up seeing people in serious stress.

Knowing your basic body shape and understanding the types of clothes that will accentuate your good features, so that you dress in a way that really suits you. Today there are so many options to choose from so you’ll always be able to find something that will complement your body shape, scale, proportions, color profile (skin tone, hair color and eye color), personality and life style.

“The dress must follow the body of a woman, not the body following the shape of the dress”.

-Hubert de Givenchy

Dressing for your body shape is the key to style and confidence. Before we talk styles, let’s take a look at our body shapes. This time would like the focus to be anarkallis.

APPLE
apple body style

You have an apple shaped body if you have

Rounder shoulder line and flat bottom
Average to big bust
Fullness around the middle
Good legs

For those among you who are apple shaped (if you have large bust or rounder tummy!) then you need to pick dresses / kurtas/anarkalis that have a beautiful v-neck to show off your curves or A-line, wear dress designs which take attention away from the tummy. Empire line cuts also work well for those with a rounder tummy but a smaller bust.

DSC03244IMG_1990apple -2

The sleeves – Cap (avoid these if you have big arms except in the most informal of settings), ¾ length, above the wrist, built in shoulder pads (which ensure that your clothes will hang from the shoulders), wrist length, flared or draped.

Legs are asset for people with apple shaped body – so wear chunky shoe styles, the ones with color and detailing goes very well on you. Keep the heels medium to high, wedges also works very well on you.

PEAR

pear shape

You have pear shaped body if you have

Full hips or thighs, maybe saddle bags
A defined waist
Shoulders that are narrower than your hips
A small top half as well as small bust

If you’re a pear shape lady a strapless dress/tops/anarkalis/kurtas to show off your smaller top. Choose empire or wrap dresses; separates work better. Fitted shapes are a must e.g. wrap tops or empire lines; vests, waistcoats and stiff fabrics, straight yoke, breast pockets, big collars are great; whether patterned or horizontally striped; all shoulder enhancing shapes e.g. shoulder pads, big shawls, bolero, wide straps, boat neck.

Great necklines are boat and bar dot (wider boat neck with a flipped collar). Details or fuss on the top that reduces towards the waist and hips works very well for pear shaped body .It can be in the form of embroidery, ruffles, and sequins or patch work ….

The sleeves can be cap, ¾ length, dropped, batman, puffed, wrist or above wrist are great for you. If you are small to medium busted, puffed and short sleeves will work as well. Dresses with back yokes and back belts in the waist area look great.

Wear shoes/slippers with a medium to chunky heel; platforms or wedges are great; opt for long simple single colored knee boots (neutral colors); a square, or pointed toe works well.

And don’t forget to accessorize to your heart content after all it is festive wear we are talking about.

Thanks

Wonderful world of skirts !!!!

Wonderful world of skirts

Most of the time when I am doing a wardrobe restyling  I find orphan skirts  because there is “nothing “ suitable to pair it with …

To start with be careful about how you select or buy skirts – Hem lengths of skirts change constantly but it’s important to stick with the length that flatters you most. I suggest that this will often be on the leanest part of your legs, which is usually mid-thigh or just above or below the knee or little above the ankle.

Here are some of the rules I follow while wearing or selecting tops (can be knitwear, blouses, tank tops , t- shirts )

  1. Go – Untucked – You can absolutely wear voluminous top over pencil or fitted skirt.

IMG_1981IMG_1024

2.  Tuck it in – Tuck the top in  to emphasize the waist .

IMG_1911

3.  Belt – the untucked – This is how you can make a longer and less form fitting top work with a skirt.  The belt can be loosely worn so that it rest on your natural waist or the one which fits your natural waist.

IMG_1202IMG_1455

4.  Buttoned up Cardigan – Button-up a cardigan and wear it with a skirt. Here the cardigan is acting as a top, rather than just a layering item.

DSC_0560DSC_0171

5.  Layer a cardigan over a tucked in sleeveless tank top – Tuck a plain tank top into a skirt and layer over a cardigan. The cardigan can be cropped or boyfriend. Cropped cardigans look great with A-line skirts whereas pencil skirts work with most lengths of cardigan. You can leave the cropped cardigans loose or partially buttoned. Longer length cardigans look best unbuttoned.

6. Tailored made tops –

DSC_0229DSC_0740IMG_0751

6.  Plain old tank tops –

Enjoy creating more options and excuses to wear skirts 🙂

How do you decide – what to wear and where ?

How do you decide ?

So what would you wear? if you are being interviewed as an entrepreneur and designer 🙂

So today being that day  i decided to wear a BAJAdress , in elegant wide u neckline adorned with a delicate midnight blue cotton lace overlay,  while sheer panels along the shoulders and bottom infuse your ensemble with a hint of dramatic panache. Wearing shoes in suede , silver , gold beaded necklace and a bold watch ( keep the no. of accessories  to maximum 3, so you won’t clutter the look . Hence if wearing this dress as evening wear add a glittered clutch,  you can’t help but feel as glamorous as you look!

Being a image makeover consultant I advice to follow 4 rules and hence making sure that you feel confident and dressed right .

1. To know your color profile – When clothing worn that compliments your color profile , you look more healthy and confident.

2. To know your personality style – Wearing clothing according to your lifestyle , body type ,  career and personality so you are who you are – better U

3. To know your audience or people you are going to meet  –  Meeting with your clients , pitching your business plan to investors or meeting your child’s teacher .

4. To know the occasion – can be a event where you are the speaker , or a conference  or just a casual visit to mall .

cheers to the confident “U” 🙂
