weekend maddness

Often, when I do a makeover for a person, I tell them that I need to see more of their personality.. the personality that their clothes reflects. I want to see more elements of their lifestyles, something that matches the occasion. for example, take resort wear- going out for a vacation is a time to let go, get free of the stuffiness of their routine lifestyle. so why not? why not do it completely, along with the clothing.. spice your clothes up a bit, go free, romantic, maybe, sexy.. for those few days that you spend away.

On a similar note, long weekend is coming up, and I’ve been hit by a surge of interested, prospective buyers who want to know what they can do for their weekend off… with their clothes, that is. This got me thinking, “What would I do?” So I pulled out my designing skills, and got this together ( this one for getting the pattern right i stitched the sample myself )  , something that I’d love to wear on my few days off, but not anywhere else.. something different. Here’s what i put together and photography by Rashmi did complete justice to the out fit . Accessorized with  a watch and a handmade ring from Amrapalli ._DSC1082 copy_DSC1097 _DSC1107

So just analyze your lifestyle and your personality so you can have a wardrobe that fits   that .

Make your own rules

My BAJA dress has something vaguely sailor-ish about that makes the air around me taste saltier than it should. Odd as it seems, it’s true. With tiny boats dancing across the dark blue background and a silver cummerbund around my waist, I’d like to emphasize the fact that traditional touches can be added to any dress, western as it is. Let those traditional pieces hit the roads once in a while, just with a little right tweaks to the outfit.

My necklace is no more a necklace that a bracelet would be as it is, not one piece, but a pair of my favorite silver anklets, linked together with the rings at the corners. My eye makeup is what I’d like to call old Indian, the sixties movie style- the winged eye. The fact is, opposed to popular belief as it is, that “traditionalistic” pieces or makeup can be paired with western, and they look fantastic. So take this as an invitation to raid your grandmother’s jewelry box, or take those pretty pieces out of the locked boxes they’ve been hiding in, and flaunt them!

Go ahead set your own rules 🙂

Wake up Sunshine

It is said that one picture is a thousand words. Different pictures speak to different people, but none have called out to me like this one. A picture of a seemingly ordinary scenario, an everyday scene on the  Bangalore  metro, but this beautiful woman represents everything important to me, the triumph of BAJA. A woman comfortable in her own skin, casual yet chic, all with a pink clad baby in her arms. This woman, clad in BAJA, is everything we’d ever hoped our wearers to be. Women have three important elements, their casual side, professional, and party-elegance. To blend all these three elements seamlessly into one perfect person is our call. Somehow, this picture says it all.

All in day!!!! A BAJA story …..

When we say all our  BAJA dress  are made with handpicked fabrics and each dress is carefully handcrafted we mean it.

I love frocks/ dresses and always wanted something that i can wear here in Bangalore , dresses that covers my knees, tailor fit , very modest yet stylish/elegant  and are vintage inspired .

BAJA was born because of this love for frocks /dresses and with strong Indian roots.  So we love working with traditional Indian fabrics and kaarigari .

Today in BAJA unit we needed all the working hand , so yes ended up cutting the pattern to stitching, loved every bit of it  IMG_2917IMG_2911IMG_2920   IMG_2923

Love those antique iron box ( very reliable and extremely heavy )

Friday Casuals, wearing BAJA dresses and frocks to work …

Collage bab

#BAJAdress “Minty tint ” 100% linen dress, puckering at the yoke and a tie at the back gives this dress a comfortable fit . Pairing it with a fitted corduroy jacket, lambaddi tribal necklace, pearl and crystal ring , peep toe wedges and smudge eyes 🙂

Things i love the most is to put random things together and enjoy when it actually works 🙂 Wearing a hot pink frock, trench coat ( not lined, thin cotton ) and traditional Indian juttis . Fuchsia lip color, kajal and i am already for work ( yes, was out at 7;30 am and it was chill )

A blast of color on a rainy moody day in Bangalore. in love with the water color pattern ,the cool pockets typical of BAJA brand. A yellow pebble on the neck in a silver string calms the colors down and pairing it with boots.
