weekend maddness

Often, when I do a makeover for a person, I tell them that I need to see more of their personality.. the personality that their clothes reflects. I want to see more elements of their lifestyles, something that matches the occasion. for example, take resort wear- going out for a vacation is a time to let go, get free of the stuffiness of their routine lifestyle. so why not? why not do it completely, along with the clothing.. spice your clothes up a bit, go free, romantic, maybe, sexy.. for those few days that you spend away.

On a similar note, long weekend is coming up, and I’ve been hit by a surge of interested, prospective buyers who want to know what they can do for their weekend off… with their clothes, that is. This got me thinking, “What would I do?” So I pulled out my designing skills, and got this together ( this one for getting the pattern right i stitched the sample myself )  , something that I’d love to wear on my few days off, but not anywhere else.. something different. Here’s what i put together and photography by Rashmi did complete justice to the out fit . Accessorized with  a watch and a handmade ring from Amrapalli ._DSC1082 copy_DSC1097 _DSC1107

So just analyze your lifestyle and your personality so you can have a wardrobe that fits   that .

BAJA dress for dinner date

Love for dresses is what motivates me to design dresses for BAJA  .  I am comfortable if the dresses for special occasions don’t cling but drape well . These are some of the dresses that i love to wear to that perfect dinner date.

Orange sherbet

This dress  from BAJA  in pure chiffon,   instantly lengthening your figure with its vertical stripes, and draping flatteringly, is perfect for a romantic night out. Designed to be versatile and perfect, the yoke at the back causes the dress to fall and drape beautifully.

It is lined with a stretchy, light weight fabric and its divided sleeves allow for much freedom of movement, and at the same time giving you exactly enough skin coverage to feel comfortable. The dress, called after its stunning hues, is named Orange Sherbet and effortlessly infuses functional glamor into your wardrobe. Sweet on its own, and stunning when accessorized, this dress will satisfy every one of your stylish whims and fancies.

Make your own rules

My BAJA dress has something vaguely sailor-ish about that makes the air around me taste saltier than it should. Odd as it seems, it’s true. With tiny boats dancing across the dark blue background and a silver cummerbund around my waist, I’d like to emphasize the fact that traditional touches can be added to any dress, western as it is. Let those traditional pieces hit the roads once in a while, just with a little right tweaks to the outfit.

My necklace is no more a necklace that a bracelet would be as it is, not one piece, but a pair of my favorite silver anklets, linked together with the rings at the corners. My eye makeup is what I’d like to call old Indian, the sixties movie style- the winged eye. The fact is, opposed to popular belief as it is, that “traditionalistic” pieces or makeup can be paired with western, and they look fantastic. So take this as an invitation to raid your grandmother’s jewelry box, or take those pretty pieces out of the locked boxes they’ve been hiding in, and flaunt them!

Go ahead set your own rules 🙂

BAJA 2013 Dress or FIFA 2014 Dress

The most sought out dress from our 2013 collection was our dress that we named as ‘Off to Goa”.

IMG_4458 IMG_0691

A dress that you could just slip into, a aqua-blue, vintage-inspired, island-print frock from BAJA .  Sleeveless Frock with flattering pin tucks, side zipped for that extra comfort , a natural waist, and an A-line skirt fully lined.. Wear it to a fun filled vacation at a resort or to a lunch date with your best friend .Couple it with vintage shoes and a white cardi….

Today  my daughter while watching the video screamed out Amma,  ‘Off to Goa’ ( yes my kids know names of all the dress from BAJA ) is in FIFA . That didn’t make any sense to me until i saw this ….

So there it was a similar dress on JLo in the FIFA 2014 SONG .

Amma,  were they inspired by BAJA dress ? and I  was happy to hear that 🙂

Wake up Sunshine

It is said that one picture is a thousand words. Different pictures speak to different people, but none have called out to me like this one. A picture of a seemingly ordinary scenario, an everyday scene on the  Bangalore  metro, but this beautiful woman represents everything important to me, the triumph of BAJA. A woman comfortable in her own skin, casual yet chic, all with a pink clad baby in her arms. This woman, clad in BAJA, is everything we’d ever hoped our wearers to be. Women have three important elements, their casual side, professional, and party-elegance. To blend all these three elements seamlessly into one perfect person is our call. Somehow, this picture says it all.

Lady in boots – How and what to wear with boots

My  favorite time of year? When autumn hits that perfect peak of sunny skies and crisp air, leaves crunch beneath your feet, and all you need is a colorful BAJA dress ,  jackets and yes BOOTS

Tall boots are perfect for fall and winter days. They allow you to get wear out of your lighter dresses and skirts

Fitted boots – Pick a pair that’s fitted around your leg but not so tight that your skin bulges out from the top. There shouldn’t be more than a half inch of space between your leg and your boot. The boots can be pull down a little to give a scrunched up look .

Or, wear a flat style with a mini or skin tight denims . If with mini, think about wearing tights, either way: You’ll look more conservative and pulled together. A straight cut makes them easy to slip in and out of, and they’re perfect if you want to put your jeans inside. They’re a little more casual but still refined. They are not skin fit to accommodate jeans or tights .

The ankle length boots or a ‘shootie”  slip easily under jeans or dress pants and don’t feel restrictive around your legs.

Light weight elf boots pair well with frocks and dresses, giving the  outfits a down-to-earth feel.

Hiking boots generally offer the wearer more support and protection. If you have wobbly ankles, the higher profile of hiking boots supports your foot more.
