Things i love the most is to put random things together and enjoy when it actually works 🙂 Wearing a hot pink frock, trench coat ( not lined, thin cotton ) and traditional Indian juttis . Fuchsia lip color, kajal and i am already for work ( yes, was out at 7;30 am and it was chill )

A blast of color on a rainy moody day in Bangalore. in love with the water color pattern ,the cool pockets typical of BAJA brand. A yellow pebble on the neck in a silver string calms the colors down and pairing it with boots.

Postpartum makeover , what it meant to me – Embrace the new â€˜U’

Postpartum makeover , what it meant to me – Embrace the new ‘U’

Being a mom of two wonderful daughters and a image makeover consultant, I love helping new moms to embrace the new ‘U’.  I love helping them with healthy life style choices from inside out , shop or design a new wardrobe ,  put down a hair and skin care regime , work with color cosmetics  and work with the hairstylist to give them a new hairstyle to suit their new role.

There are people who exclaim –  “oh! You don’t look like mom of two!”.  Unfortunately, the stereotype of a mom is that of a person who neglects herself in order to take care of the family, is terribly outdated.

Believe me,  you will be the better mom if you take care of yourself. Looking good  will make you  feel  better about yourself, and put you in a better frame of mind to labor throughout the day, and handle the challenges that parenting brings.

Why is the postpartum body seen as something that needs fixing? Shouldn’t our bodies that gave birth to little miracles be celebrated?  Relax. It took nine months to build that baby-growing body, so give yourself time to get back into shape. And lets look at it like this…you are the tigress who earned her stripes…lets be proud of our stretch marks.

I am not saying that I will be hooraying for tummy pooches or sagging breasts. oh yes I can hear the screams for the stretch marks  nor  would I deny  that I wanted to be ‘ yum mum’

I’ve never wanted to go under the knife , not that I am opposed to plastic surgery . But I was not sure If I wanted to take that mental and physical pain of going through that surgery. Nor did  I want to spend that kind of money and get into a debt J.

For me, postpartum makeover  meant  getting back to shape ,  knowing  the colors which will look good on me and also figuring out what style of clothing would suit my new lifestyle ( being a new mom ).

Maybe a new hairstyle that doesn’t need much of maintenance as it was more of “bye  bye  hair straightener and  salon kind blowouts”.  I was looking for someone who would help me to put down a hair care and skin care regimen ( with a baby around who needs to fed every 2hours I was losing my hair – literally 🙂 :))

If you have your first kid in India , where you are pampered  by your parents,  the only thing you need to worry  about is feeding the baby ,  and having  someone wake you every two hours to feed the baby .

Being in the US when I was expecting my second daughter was a completely different experience .  Taking care of a premature baby and a toddler who needed constant attention with no helping hand  was a big challenge. For me not feeling good was not an option. So I made sure that I was not going to get into the mommy rut or neglect myself .

Stretching and morning walks in sunshine helped a lot to cheer me up( I would feed the baby  and ask my husband to take care of the baby , so he could have the father-daughter bonding time, yes I did put it that way :))

Ask for help – there is nothing wrong , you won’t get any medals for being a super mom .

It could  be aching arms , or baby blues  or maybe you just want to sit somewhere peacefully and read a book . Ask for help from people whom you trust, your friends  or spouse .

I used to take off to the mall/window shopping/library/park with my older daughter so I could spend time alone with her. This was better than telling her that she cannot talk loudly as the younger one is asleep  or that I was too busy for  her as the baby took all my energy and time .

Give yourself time and treat yourself well , meanwhile do few things so you can be the ‘diva’

Wardrobe

Use of dark ( or even bright )and monochromatic  colors will help, as the spit up stains and the leak ( you know what I am talking about )  won’t show . Leggings , draw string trousers  or even the first maternity jeans ( that you got when you were in your first trimester )

New mom makeup kit  and skin care

With no time to sleep and fatigue the only eye makeup you would be wearing is blood shot eyes. The fatigue and excess body fluids makes a deadly combination leading to  those puffy eyes .

Cold tea bags work well, too — tea contains tannin, a natural astringent that may help reduce puffiness. You can also try an eye gel (keep it chilled in the fridge) that contains ingredients such as arnica, chamomile, and cucumber that reduce puffiness. Sleeping on couple of pillows so your head stays raised up also prevents the fluid accumulation around the eye.

It would be a good idea to invest in some good concealers  and some bright eyeshades  or lip colors .

I repeat, you will be a good mom if you invest some time in yourself, if you take time for yourself you will be less depressed and irritated.

Tips on how to “Dress up for the day ” – Being an Indian women…

How do you get the energy to get yourself ready and dressed everyday so nicely?

Thought this question would be a good one to lead into a blog about :

Simple things you can do to transform you to the “Confident U”

To start with – Yes , I do spend some time to get ready because it makes me feel wonderful . It’s amazing what a little makeup, styled hair and a nice outfit can do for your self confidence.  Working with Indian moms   where most of them believe that’ if you take a little time out for  yourself, then you are not a good mom , a wife or even sometimes a good employee. But I believe you can be all these and be happy about  yourself ,  when you feel your absolute best. I am aware that  just looks are not going to help …but how you look on the outside does effect on how you feel inside .

I love to look my best all the time , when I am  at work  or running all around Bangalore doing the errands  or even while  working from home.

YES – there are times when I leave the house just like that , maybe a jog  or run to the gate to hand over the forgotten lunch boxes ( have two school going daughters ). But most of the time I do take efforts to dress up as It makes me feel good about myself .

Here are few tips that I follow while putting together a look and also a doable routine .

Having a working wardrobe –  We have stuff in our wardrobe that we are always emotionally attached to, a sari from your mom /mom in law, or the scarf that your brother gave you or maybe the dress you wore when you met your husband for the first  time …

(Wardrobe pic source :http://tlc.howstuffworks.com/home/how-to-design-a-womans-closet.htm)

Clearing your wardrobe on a regular basis will make sure that you know what you have in your wardrobe   and also get rid of the outfits that you are never going to wear. Or maybe you can rescue some by minimal alterations, restyle them to your current preferences.

While Organizing my  wardrobe, I like to group similar items and colors together . I group them by -Knit wear tops , Bottoms ( shorts at the bottom as I don’t wear them much , capris , denims, and then on top the trousers ), Skirts , cotton and chiffon or silk tops ( silk and chiffons – better  to hang them  ) , dresses … , shrugs  this way if I am wearing a skirt or a trouser  I can easily find what all can be paired with them . I don’t stick to rules nor my style is predictable so arranging the wardrobe this way gives me loads of options .

I hate drawers as they don’t let me see all the items in one glance , I only put things like gym wear , socks undergarments , saree skirts in drawers .

My daily “look “ routine – I usually wash my hair in the evening as I  want  to avoid blowing it dry . Before sleeping I tie my hair into a pony tail as this gives a nice bounce to the hair . Morning depending upon the weather  I may use a straightner  or a curler or just scrunch it up ( if the weather is too humid , like now it is in Bangalore ).  Some styling oil always comes handy on bad hair days  J.

My makeup routine remains the same for work (colors may change) so I don’t spent time experimenting  on a regular working day . Take some time once to try out different looks and then decide on one look which you can do most of the time an. And once you start doing this regularly , you spend littler time for this.

Do not do all this with a feeling of “ you have to do it” , do it because you like putting in an effort that helps you look and feel good . Believe me taking half an hour a day for yourself  is never a waste …your loved ones, who care about your needs a “Happy and content U”

Hope that these simple methods were helpful to all you lovely ladies…would like to read your comments too.

Image Makeover on Deccan Chronicle

http://www.deccanchronicle.com/130517/lifestyle-fashionbeauty/article/%E2%80%98brand%E2%80%99-new-you

First impressions are always long lasting. Who can forget the popular sitcom Ugly Betty, and closer home Mona Singh in the local remake Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi and how their lives changed after an image makeover. Many celebrities like Hrithik Roshan and Siddhartha Mallya have enrolled in classes to boost their confidence levels. Actor Duniya Rashmi was not doing so well in Sandalwood, but now the starlet is back with a bang, thanks to an image makeover. There are image consultants, queuing in by the dozen to help you step up the corporate ladder, or make a relationship successful and give you a head-to-toe revamp with complete personality development. We explore the trend which is catching on in the city.

Image makeovers can be adept at forging new relationships and maintaining old ones.

“I was depressed, but after enrolling into a 21-day image makeover session and some one-on-one sessions, I can now communicate with confidence and can handle crises. I have transformed physically too and that is a bonus. Infact, I had never travelled by flight before as I was scared. Now, I know all about dining and flying etiquette and took my first flight recently.”

Someone who almost gave up on life after a marriage and kids is Amrutha John, who came back with zeal to prove herself. She reveals, “After I got married and had children, I had to leave a successful career, but thanks to a few sessions, I’m now juggling both perfectly and am a happy person. I was under the misconception that image makeover is only about looking stylish. I did embrace a new sense of style, but more importantly, I realised that I have to follow my dreams, irrespective of how people judge me.”

Babita Jaishankar, who helps individuals project the image they desire, says, “People form impressions on how someone presents themselves, behaves, their speech, posture, eye contact, and etiquette. There are a lot of people who need help branding themselves — women, job-seekers, corporate executives and their spouses, new moms, brides/grooms, mothers resuming work, lawyers and their clients, cancer survivors, singles etc.”

Dare to Play with Patterns – What am I wearing today?

Playing with patterns – This time it is floral patterns on the vest with stripes on the dress, Stripes acts neutral and can help ground the floral pattern. In fact it can be the other way also… as they complement each other. Look for a unifying color and cut down the risk by choosing a bold shoe (As always I am risking it all by dual colored shoe 🙂 )..Try this –recycle an old dress and restyle your  wardrobe …do an Image Makeover for your wardrobe..

Thanks

Rags to riches

Rags to Riches…

Looks like, the passion to work with fabrics runs in the family. As we at BAJA are into manufacturing our own garments we produce lot of scraps too. Being a Green family we tend to use up the scraps.

So this ‘summer vacation makeover project’ was to make rag dolls. Ashu my teenage daughter is the one with the right ideas and she was the teacher/ instructor/ supervisor.  So in this project there were two of my kids Ashu , Esha  and their two cousin sisters ( Sithu and Shalu )

The outline of the dolls were drawn on to white cotton cloth and cut.

The edges were stitched , it was amazing to see how these 8 to 14 year old

stitched the dolls together .

Two of them stitched it and turned it inside out and the other two just hemmed it with different colored thread.

Scraps of fabric were shredded ( I think they enjoyed this more ) to fill up the dolls .

Crochet thread were used for hair, this was the most time consuming part as each hair needed to be hand stitched.

Also saw redheads

Yep it was all worth it for this …..

Now they are busy with making clothes for the doll, so the story continues …….

Signing off for now…

Layer me up !!!

A romantic dinner followed by an evening of dancing at a wintertime gala ( or the start of winter chill in the air ) is excellent in and of itself, but this dress is making it completely perfect.

Layering helps to keep me warm and stylish for a chilly day in office , wearing a shift dress and a long woolen full sleeved overcoat. A lemony green/yellow shift dress in cotton silk , the long jacket is deep burgundy in wool blend .

Further dolled up by satiny heels, rhinestone earrings, and bunch of beads on my neck , smile at the world around you, blissfully content and superbly stylish!:)

Beaded !!!!

For me pleasurable pastime consists of surrounding myself in swarms of beaded jewelry, including the multi-colors of this statement necklace! A fashionable touch that causes a buzz everywhere you go. Add it to add texture to your boring black dress/top, with platinum pumps, and the air of an adornment expert, and you are one ‘honey’ of a haute dresser!

Beat the blue

Beat the blue – top in shear blue silk organza .You’ve always been told that you’re brimming with style, and when you don this sheer, crystal ball-hued top, your chic ensemble simply can’t be beat. Layer over a black tank with the exaggerated tie at the waist that forms a wonderful bow, tie at the sleeves, pair this top with a high-waisted skirt or a good fitted jeans, add a of vintage-inspired neck-piece, and a classically quilted shoulder bag, and you’ve crafted a look sure to be admired by all around. Electric blue for the eyes, hair tied at the back and nude lips 🙂
