Why dressing up is good?

This week is been a week of festivities ( with Ganesh chathurthi and Onam ) . I wore saree, high heels, lipstick, bindi and flowers in my hair. I don’t do that every day. And I loved it.

It was something I needed to do since becoming a image makeover consultant ( a corporate trainer) I am most of the time in formals . And i also advice people to dress up to the occasion and audience . It was time for me  to take things up a notch and make an effort. So, I did, and felt all the better for it.

I believe women need this and men, well, should. Because what we do when we make an effort, to dress up, suffer heels, iron and starch and strut our sartorial stuff is to show respect.

Understanding and adhering to a dress code involves tradition and as such, requires passing on down generations, preferably by example. I believe being a mom to two daughters it is my duty to tap their shoulder and say, ”this is not a jeans occasion and while you’re changing in to something respectful, brush your hair”. What’s more, to encourage them to enjoy the experience. Remind young people that it feels good to look good. Because when we make an effort to dress up for an occasion ( like it was for Onam today ) is like showing respect . It’s a celebration of occasion and ourselves. It’s not old fashioned, just out of fashion. Style and class does not have seasons. It is eternal. We just don’t get opportunities today to play fantasy dress-ups without feeling self-conscious, to give our decorous inner selves an outing.

So dress up this coming festival 🙂

Does Image Matter?

My article in Rotary magazine that was released on 31st OF August by Mr.MAALAN Chief Editor of NEW GENERATION MEDIA

Blog in Rotarty club - 1

Here is the complete article –

marca-personal-mk-personal-branding-personal

Your personal image is important; it is what people think about you!  Companies and some public figures use PR firms to build or reinforce their personal image, where their aim is to persuade the public to create a favorable opinion of their client.  Your personal image affects your success in your career, personal life and public life.  Personal image does matter!
People judge others based on three elements.

  • How they dress
  • How they speak
  • How they act.

When I do workshops /sessions with students I discuss how they are misunderstood.  I share with them how I would make a judgment about a student in the first five seconds of seeing him/her.  They unanimously object to such a quick leap to judgment.  I usually turn it around and ask them if they would they make a judgment if they saw a hot looking boy or girl across campus. The answer is always “yes”.

Do you only think about your personal image when you interview or go to work?  Do you ever run into bosses, professors or colleagues in your off time?  How are you treated when you are in a store or other venues outside of work? Would it be a lot easier if you dressed up all the time?  Sure, but that may not make you feel comfortable.  I think that is important too.  Your personal image should fit your personality.

You don’t need to dress up all the time to make a positive impression.  It is more necessary to look good!  Do you “look well put together”?  Are your clothes clean and pressed?  Is it appropriate for the occasion?  Personal opinion may enter into this, but that is why it is your personal image.  Own it. It is your choice!  Personal image is more than what you wear!  It is how you speak and act too.  In social situations, you may notice someone because of the way they look or act.
So, let’s start a series of talks to help you look and feel good so you can reach “your maximum potential”.

Restyled to Jacket

How do you combine style and sustainability? The weather here was nothing short of glorious, so I tried to take advantage of it by wearing a long jacket on top of a shift dress to a meet where I was invited to be part of panel discussion on lifestyle and fashion. Since this was a shawl gifted to me by someone special I didn’t want it to just sit in my wardrobe, I wanted to wear it. The jacket is restyled from an old wool shawl which was too heavy for me to wrap around. The cotton lining for the jacket also makes it less itchy (as pure wool tends to get itchy) and there are hidden buttons along the length of the jacket, making it wearable as a dress too .IMG_4829

Glam up this women’s day

IMG_2767 IMG_3346 IMG_2766

Our natural beauty is often drowned out by the bolder statements of the same, and the desire to stand out is fulfilled by skilled artwork, the amplification of our natural beauty with a few colors, our makeup.

Makeup is no warpaint. many women tend to shy away from this necessary part of our lives, simply because they are afraid to experiment. They are afraid to use makeup, simply because they have convinced themselves that they will get it wrong. makeup is art, there is no way to get it wrong, but everybody has one look that just “works” for them. a look that makes them look in the mirror, and feel beautiful.

This women’s day, find your look with us, at our free makeup session on the 7th of march but it is only through registration so sent in your confirmation at designer@babitajaishankar.com, and help us make sure, that you are not missing out on the wonders of something as ordinary as makeup.

Tips on how to “Dress up for the day ” – Being an Indian women…

How do you get the energy to get yourself ready and dressed everyday so nicely?

Thought this question would be a good one to lead into a blog about :

Simple things you can do to transform you to the “Confident U”

To start with – Yes , I do spend some time to get ready because it makes me feel wonderful . It’s amazing what a little makeup, styled hair and a nice outfit can do for your self confidence.  Working with Indian moms   where most of them believe that’ if you take a little time out for  yourself, then you are not a good mom , a wife or even sometimes a good employee. But I believe you can be all these and be happy about  yourself ,  when you feel your absolute best. I am aware that  just looks are not going to help …but how you look on the outside does effect on how you feel inside .

I love to look my best all the time , when I am  at work  or running all around Bangalore doing the errands  or even while  working from home.

YES – there are times when I leave the house just like that , maybe a jog  or run to the gate to hand over the forgotten lunch boxes ( have two school going daughters ). But most of the time I do take efforts to dress up as It makes me feel good about myself .

Here are few tips that I follow while putting together a look and also a doable routine .

Having a working wardrobe –  We have stuff in our wardrobe that we are always emotionally attached to, a sari from your mom /mom in law, or the scarf that your brother gave you or maybe the dress you wore when you met your husband for the first  time …

(Wardrobe pic source :http://tlc.howstuffworks.com/home/how-to-design-a-womans-closet.htm)

Clearing your wardrobe on a regular basis will make sure that you know what you have in your wardrobe   and also get rid of the outfits that you are never going to wear. Or maybe you can rescue some by minimal alterations, restyle them to your current preferences.

While Organizing my  wardrobe, I like to group similar items and colors together . I group them by -Knit wear tops , Bottoms ( shorts at the bottom as I don’t wear them much , capris , denims, and then on top the trousers ), Skirts , cotton and chiffon or silk tops ( silk and chiffons – better  to hang them  ) , dresses … , shrugs  this way if I am wearing a skirt or a trouser  I can easily find what all can be paired with them . I don’t stick to rules nor my style is predictable so arranging the wardrobe this way gives me loads of options .

I hate drawers as they don’t let me see all the items in one glance , I only put things like gym wear , socks undergarments , saree skirts in drawers .

My daily “look “ routine – I usually wash my hair in the evening as I  want  to avoid blowing it dry . Before sleeping I tie my hair into a pony tail as this gives a nice bounce to the hair . Morning depending upon the weather  I may use a straightner  or a curler or just scrunch it up ( if the weather is too humid , like now it is in Bangalore ).  Some styling oil always comes handy on bad hair days  J.

My makeup routine remains the same for work (colors may change) so I don’t spent time experimenting  on a regular working day . Take some time once to try out different looks and then decide on one look which you can do most of the time an. And once you start doing this regularly , you spend littler time for this.

Do not do all this with a feeling of “ you have to do it” , do it because you like putting in an effort that helps you look and feel good . Believe me taking half an hour a day for yourself  is never a waste …your loved ones, who care about your needs a “Happy and content U”

Hope that these simple methods were helpful to all you lovely ladies…would like to read your comments too.
